It’s easy to see just why Crowdsite is one of the more popular crowdsourcing websites for design and branding solutions. It’s a platform that’s been designed to bring together freelancers from across the world with those who want to receive a selection of ideas and designs to choose from. With a global community of design experts that will be competing against each other to win the attention of business and brand owners.
It’s clear Crowdsite has a mission – matching the best businesses with the most relevant freelancer; it even has a unique Twitter-style / hashtag model which lets you find a freelancer in just 140 characters. Bringing you the best match in record time. With prices starting from just $59, it’s right up there in the value for money stakes, too. With a whole range of affordable prices for the full gamut of design and brand items. From websites and logos, to t-shirts, vehicle wraps, brochures and packaging.
Crowdsourcing can always seem a little faceless. But the upsides are huge. Crowdsite has been designed so you get the best possible selection of designs from their community of experienced designers, so quality and speed is always assured. Crowdsite has more than 70,000 designers working with them and these designers have contributed millions of designs over the years since it was founded. Sadly, there isn’t a huge amount of information on the site about the background of the designers in general. Previous examples of work, or a portfolio of any kind, is also a little thin on the ground. But if you can look past this, then there’s lots to shout about here – and there’s no arguing with the outstanding customer rating of 9.8/10. You do also get a little background on the Crowdsite team itself, and its founding members, which gives you confidence that this is a site focused on quality.
Although it’s pretty easy to find out the unique features of each design service offered, it can be confusing to find all the information you need upfront. And while there are a number of guarantees offered if you’re not satisfied with the work, the information you need to know doesn’t appear to be upfront and obvious. There also isn’t a single page where all the contract information is laid out in one place, which would be really useful. But you can use the FAQs section, the general Terms & Conditions, the customer services pages, and the live chat functionality.
Although general information across the site could be more detailed, Crowdsite’s customer service is good. They have a direct number you can call, which is always reassuring, and they make it very clear that it’s easy to ring and chat through your requirements or ask any questions, with a member of their team. A live chat functionality would be useful, however. You can email them too of course, with most requests being answered within 24hours. There is also a blog, which gives good advice, tips, and industry thoughts and opinion.
Various pricing options available for the full range of design services.
Logo design - $149
Ad banner - $39
Label design $199
Logo & stationery - $236
Commission – 30% of the prize money; lower than many competitors
The Crowdsite process is super easy. The first step is writing your own design brief, describing your requirements, before designers compete in your design contest. Step two will see you receive professional and custom designs that suit your company. Then, after seven days, choose your winner and get all the design files in full, before the designer is awarded.
The site is really welcoming, and signposting is clear throughout. But you do get a sense that there could be a more detailed level of information in all key areas, especially the design process. The good news is, once you do get going, Crowdsite make it easy to put a strong brief together for the design community; with a comprehensive briefing form to fill in, to ensure nothing is missed, or lost in translation at what is the most important stage.
If you’re looking to harness the power of the people, with a 70,000+ strong crowdsourcing design community, then Crowdsite is it. A good solid site, that could have more information about the process and portfolio, yes, but that really packs a punch in terms of affordable pricing, testimonials, and customer ratings.
